My 7-Day Omi App Review: Is Omi a Good & Legit Dating App?

The Omi app caught my attention mainly because it has over 50 million downloads, which is a massive number for any dating app. Naturally, I got curious to find out what the dating experience is actually like on a platform this popular.

I’ve decided to try it out for a full seven days. A week feels like enough time to get a clear picture of how the app works, whether it’s worth your time, and to give you a quick idea of whether Omi might be the right fit for you.

Day 1: 

I just created an account on the Omi app, and the first thing I noticed was that the signup process only works through a phone number or Facebook. There’s no option to register with an email, which I personally find a little inconvenient.

At first, I tried signing up with my phone number, but for some reason, I just couldn’t receive the verification code. I must have tried at least ten times, but no luck. Eventually, I gave up and went with the Facebook option, even though I really didn’t want to. 

Setting up my profile took barely two minutes, but I didn’t bother to fill out everything right away—so my completion score was stuck at just 18%. Still, that didn’t stop me from jumping straight into swiping. 

Almost immediately, I noticed that the app was showing me profiles from all over the place—UAE, China, Oman, the UK, and of course, my own country as well. After checking the match preferences, I realized you can actually expand the search area, which is pretty nice if you’re open to meeting people outside your own city. 

Within about 20 minutes, after swiping right on 30+ profiles, I got my very first match! It was with a girl from Oman. I sent her a message, but she hasn’t replied yet.

The app then suggested that if I wanted more matches, I should upload a few more photos, add better details about myself, and verify my profile so it looks more genuine. I followed the suggestions, and now my profile completion is up to 90%, which I think is more than enough. 

Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see what happens from here—and hopefully, matching with more people along the way. 

Day 2: 

It’s the evening of my second day on Omi, and today I ended up swiping on more than 60 profiles. That means I’ve swiped right on over 100 people in total since signing up. 

So, what were the results? Honestly, not great. I only matched with one girl, and that actually happened yesterday. Today—nothing. And to make things worse, the girl I did match with seems to have disappeared, because she never replied to my message. 

To put it simply, day two was kind of boring. No new matches, and on top of that I ran out of likes. The app popped up saying I’d already liked more than 99 profiles, which clearly shows it doesn’t offer unlimited swipes. 

On a positive note, I really like the overall design of the Omi app. It feels clean, modern, and easy on the eyes. Everything loads quickly, and the interface is pretty smooth. One feature I found quite clever is that you can actually change the Omi app icon on your home screen to something like a weather app, calculator, or news app—so nobody can tell you’ve got Omi installed.

Overall, from a design and usability perspective, I really don’t have any complaints. But features-wise, it feels a bit limited. There isn’t a whole lot you can actually do on the app besides the basics. 

For now, I’ll keep using it and see if I manage to get any new matches once my likes reset. 

Day 3: 

Today turned out to be a much better day on Omi. I got one like and matched with three more girls, which makes me think the app has started showing my profile to more people. Funny enough, I noticed the same thing when I tested the MEEFF app earlier—day one was completely dry, but from day two onward the matches started rolling in more steadily. 

Another thing I found interesting was the way likes reset. On day two, I completely ran out of likes by around 7 PM. Naturally, I assumed they would reset exactly after 24 hours, so I was expecting to get them back at 7 PM the next day.

But to my surprise, when I checked the app at around 8 AM this morning, my likes were already refreshed. That makes me think they either reset every 12 hours or automatically at midnight. I’m not 100% sure, but either way, it’s good news. 

Now that my likes are back, I’ve decided not to swipe right on every single profile just for the sake of it. Instead, I’m going to be a bit more selective and only like the ones that genuinely catch my eye. 

As for the matches, I knew the app hides who liked you behind a paid plan, but there’s a little workaround: if you keep swiping, the person who liked you eventually shows up. And that’s exactly what happened. The girl who had liked me popped up, I swiped right, and boom—it was a match. That brings my total to five matches so far. 

Right now, I’m having a conversation with a girl from the UAE, and I’ve already sent messages to the other four as well. Let’s see how it goes from here and if I end up getting matched with even more people in the coming days.

Day 4: 

Today, I stumbled upon a few new features in the Omi app—completely by accident, actually. While checking my inbox, I swiped down without thinking and suddenly found myself on the Blind Date page. 

This section has a few interesting options. There’s Telepath, which allows you to chat through voice messages, a Dating Quiz, and something called Omi Clic. With Omi Clic, you get paired with a random user, and once you’ve exchanged at least five messages, both profiles automatically unlock so you can see each other fully. 

I have to admit, I was pretty impressed with these features. The only issue is that the Blind Date page isn’t easy to find—there’s no dedicated button for it. If I hadn’t accidentally swiped down in my inbox, I might never have discovered it. 

After using these features, I actually matched with two more girls. One replied, while the other hasn’t gotten back to me yet. On top of that, I also received three new likes today. The app doesn’t show those profiles directly in the explore tab for swiping, so I’ll have to be patient. Still, I’m fairly confident I’ll end up matching with them soon. 

Another thing I noticed in my profile tab is an option called ‘Surpass 70%.’ When I tapped on it, it took me to a real-time popularity contest that said, ‘You recently received more likes than 70% of guys in your area.’ It even gave me some tips to get more likes, like staying active, swiping often, using better photos, improving my profile, and getting verified.

Since I’ve already done most of that, I suppose that’s why the number of likes I’m getting has started to increase.

Day 5:

Today wasn’t very exciting on Omi. I spent some time browsing through profiles, liking a few, ignoring others, and then suddenly—everything stopped. The app literally said ‘No more users around’. 

I tried expanding the search area, but even then, no new profiles showed up. Out of curiosity, I adjusted the default age range from 21–37 down to 18–37, and that gave me a handful of new profiles. But again, after two or three swipes, it was back to running out of people. 

Since the app doesn’t let me manually change my location, it feels like I’m stuck searching only within one limited area.

Something strange also happened today. A girl who had liked me actually appeared in my explore tab. I swiped right, and we matched—which should’ve been straightforward. But when I tried to send her a message, the app asked me to pay. Honestly, that feels weird because once two people have already liked each other, messaging should just be free, as with all other matches on the app. 

As for my current matches, I’ve messaged every single one of them. Only one girl is still replying—she’s from Indonesia and recently moved to Dubai for work. A couple of others did send a first message, but after one or two exchanges, they just disappeared. 

Another thing I’m noticing is how limited the diversity of profiles is. Most of what I’m seeing comes from just a few countries—mainly UAE, Oman, the Philippines, and a handful from India. And even within those, the pool doesn’t seem very big, which is probably why I keep running out of people to swipe on. 

To be honest, today felt pretty uneventful. Still, I’ll stick with the app for at least two more days to see if things improve—whether more profiles start showing up or if it really has run out of people for me in the nearby area.

Day 6: 

I tried using the Omi app throughout the day, but honestly, I couldn’t spend more than two or three minutes at a time on it. The main problem? I just stopped seeing new profiles—every time I checked, it kept flashing “no more users around.” 

On the messaging front, I got replies from two girls, but none of the conversations went anywhere interesting. Most chats stalled out after just a message or two. 

Honestly, it feels like 90% of the people I matched with have disappeared. I don’t mind if only 10% actually reply, but the bigger issue is that nearly all the profiles showing up now are Asian girls, mainly from Thailand and the Philippines—even if their location says UAE, UK, or Oman, their photos make it pretty clear where they’re actually from. 

As I mentioned before, conversations either get really dull or just stop out of nowhere. So, if I’m being honest, the app’s getting a bit boring for me at this point. 

Day 7: 

I matched with a girl today whose profile said she was from Turkey, but when I asked her about it, she told me she’s actually from Indonesia.

Honestly, I’m not sure why this keeps happening. Is it just me, or does everyone run into this? I’ve chatted with girls supposedly from six or seven different countries, and almost every single one has ended up being from Indonesia. 

That said, I won’t lie—the app does deliver matches, and at the end of the day, that’s what a dating app is meant to do. Omi’s serving its core purpose. But I genuinely feel like there aren’t many users in my area, because now I’m hardly seeing any new profiles at all. 

Now, I am getting three to five profiles to like, and that’s it—so the whole experience just isn’t as interesting anymore. 

Honestly, I think I’m ready to stop using the app. I have almost zero motivation to open it now. 

Would I Keep Using the Omi App? 

If I’m being honest, I just don’t feel like using this app anymore. The main reason is simple—I’m bored. I keep matching with girls from only one country, and the conversations all feel the same after a while. Plus, there are barely any new profiles appearing for me lately, so I’ve finally decided I’m done. It’s time to delete the app.

Should You Use the Omi App? 

If you want to give Omi a try, you definitely can—just keep everything I’ve mentioned in mind. I’ve uninstalled it and probably won’t use it again, but to be fair, it did do its main job: it matched me with people to chat with. If you’re just looking for someone to talk to or maybe a relationship, this app will work for you. 

Just remember: once you start matching with users from a certain country, you’ll likely keep seeing profiles mostly from there, and not many from anywhere else. If that doesn’t bother you, it’s worth a shot—Omi won’t really disappoint you in that case.
